What has been going on my my life so far...

I just want to say that high school is AWESOME! High school is full of friendly and attractive people. Unfortunately, all the kids knew each other before hand, so I kinda left out of things. Despite that, the vast majority of the students in my classes are kind. Now I regret ever attending my former school, since basically no one from my class goes to Brien McMahon. I wrote a post about high school, but I revealed some....things that I should reveal at a later time. Since nobody replied, I deleted it.

I was surprised that I wasn't bombarded with homework assignments. I guess that's because I'm just a freshman. I adjusted pretty quickly to high school, and I'm doing pretty well in high school.

The reason why I haven't posted in a while is because of Tori Amos. I haven't been this obsessed over a musician since Madonna when I was younger. I highly recommend her if female singer-songwriters are your thing.

My new obsession is now music. I don't know if I'll continue to post articles on this blog. However, I'll try and post stuff on my refurbished music blog Turtleheart. The unbelieveable has happened; I overdosed on horror. This is a result of watching 20 horror movies a month, no doubt, so could anyone really blame me? I mean, I still like the experience of watching an awesome horror movie (like Orphan), but I'm tired of watching "classics" (whether they're from this decade or from five decades ago) that in my opinion, suck. American Psycho, for example, wasn't even horror. It was basically about a yuppie that occasionally murders people. I watched it up until an hour and eleven minutes into the movie, because the DVD froze. I probably won't see the rest of it, since I was turned off completely when I saw that threesome. "Don't just stare at it, eat it." You call this entertainment? Unless, you're into that sort of thing...

So anyways, I moved on to another obsession: music. I don't think I was this obsessed with music before. Now, when I listen to certain songs, I jump around and have fantasies (I know that sounds weird, but it's fun!). Here's the thing with music: you don't have to listen to the whole song. If the beginning of a song sounds lousy, then you can bet that the whole song's going to be like that. Not to mention that you can skip through certain parts and not get lost, just in case the rest of the song might sound better.

I'd love to continue to post on here, but I don't want to post anything about horror movies anymore. Maybe I could post things about my life and who I am, like Zacery Nova does with his blog. Or I could just post something about the horrors of real life. Or I could do both. What do you guys think? I personally vote for the third option. I mean, I don't want to be known simply as the boy who knows a lot about horror. I want to be more than that!

Thanks for reading my blog. I like having cyber-friends. Not to mention that you guys are mature, and you guys type well. I hate all of the cyber-idiots that can't respect people's opinions.

Zacery Nova from Why Do I Like Stupid Horror Movies invited me over a week ago to participate in this meme/award/tag called Honest Scrap. I'm supposed to nominate 10 other blogs, but it's probably old news now, so I won't do that. However, I will post 10 things you probably didn't know about me. Sorry for doing this so late, Zac!

1. I don't really like interacting with other people (except on the Internet, of course!). I'm very shy, and I also don't really like doing stuff with other people (unless I'm really close to them).

2. I'm not a pervert. I don't look at girls like that. Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing titties (My mom's an artist, and she made a lot of paintings with naked women), but I find nothing special about a girl's body. I'm more attracted to a girl's personality.

3. Innocence is a huge turn-on for me. Let me clarify; I'd much rather date a nerdy, shy, beautiful girl than a promiscuous, big-breasted woman that wears too much makeup. So basically, the less slutty a girl is, the more attracted I am to her. Please note that innocent girls and child-like girls aren't the same thing.

4. I LOVE music. This comes from my dad (he has like over 1,000 CDs, from Iron Maiden to Prince to Madonna to James Brown etc.), and I just have to listen to music while on the Internet or writing in my notebook. Right now I like Michael Jackson, Bjork, Feist, Tori Amos, and Radiohead. I prefer listening to a woman singing than a man singing, and the male singers that I do listen to (MJ and Thom Yorke) mostly sing in a high-pitched voice.

5. I think that Thom Yorke is sexy and ugly at the same time.

6. I'm not looking forward to going to high school. I've been in the same school all my life with practically the same people. HS will be a new experience that I will not enjoy. The only thing I'm looking forward to in HS is taking a heritage Spanish class. Then again, I didn't get my schedule yet, so I don't know if I'm even going to take it.

7. I'm Hispanic, but if you saw me, and I wasn't with my family, then you'd think I'm just plain white. I'm not fluent in Spanish, and I'm light-skinned. In fact, when I was younger, my cousins had always teased me about my light skin. Now I know that it's because my ancestors were European, but it leaves me confused. Am I in in the majority because I'm technically white, or am I in the minority because I'm Hispanic?

8. I don't get why vegans don't consume dairy products. I read a story about a cow that was in so much pain because it hadn't been milked for so long. I think that unless a cow is overmilked (if that's even possible), and/or it doesn't get enough time to do things cows normally do, then it's perfectly fine to consume dairy products, because it's actually good for a cow to be milked.

9. Ever since MJ died, I've been afraid of dying early. I used to not care, because we're all going to die in the end, but now I realize that I need to do something with my life before I die. I hope my future job will change people's lives or something.

10. I trust Wikipedia (most of the time, at least). I read it almost every day, and just because anyone can edit Wikipedia doesn't mean that everyone will edit it and mess it up. When not abused, Wikipedia could be a great source of information.

The Horror Canon

I'm proud to say that I'm officially part of the Cyber-Horror Elite! When B-Sol asked me to send him what I think is the top 10 horror movies every horror fan needs to have seen in order to consider themselves a proper horror geek, I was honored. Then, someone else e-mailed the people invited to participate that it might be a better idea to not put any movies that were in the Greatest of All Time list in our top 10. This, combined with the fact that a horror geek would've already seen the classics such as Halloween and The Exorcist made me decide to send B-Sol 10 scary horror movies that every horror geek needs to see, which are:

1. Faust (1926)
This is a very good silent horror movie. In fact, I prefer it over Nosferatu. Not to mention that it's very well made for a movie made in the 1920s.

2. [REC] (2007)
I think this is the scariest movie I've ever seen. It's obvious that I want others to see it! I think it's a better mockumentary than Cannibal Holocaust and The Blair Witch Project.

3. Orphan (2009)
This movie just blew me away. It's impressive, since it's a mainstream American horror movie. Not to mention that the twist was excellent. It's the best killer-kid movie I've ever seen.

4. The Omen (1976)
This is the most famous one on my list, but it wasn't on the Greatest of All Time list. This is a must-see classic. It's also one of the first horror movies I've ever seen. It's a great horror movie that involves The Devil, and it's almost as good as The Exorcist.

5. The Innocents (1961)
I think this is the 2nd best ghost movie ever. The atmosphere in this movie could be cut with a knife. Seriously! It's sad that it's not as famous as The Haunting. I think it's better!

6. Inside (2007)
Come on, it's a movie about a psycho woman who wants to cut a pregnant woman open to get her baby! How does that not sound scary? It combines gore with suspense and frequent scares. I recommend this movie to gorehounds who want a movie that doesn't just show gore for the heck of it.

7. City of the Living Dead (1980)
Well, I had to have some Italian horror in here! If you can forgive the flaws of this movie (bad dubbing, not-so-great acting, etc.), then CotLD could scare you.

8. The Beyond (1981)
It's more well made than the previous movie, but it's not as scary. Nevertheless, this is classic Italian horror. The acting is pretty decent, and it should satisfy gorehounds. Not to mention that it has one of the best horror movie soundtracks ever!

9. Threads (1984)
I had to have a movie that had a message on here! This movie shows that nuclear war is a very, very, very, very, very bad thing. This movie disturbs you and makes you think at the same time. I recommend this movie to horror movie fans that are tired of serial killers killing horny teens.

10. Ghostwatch (1992)
This is what I think is the #1 ghost movie. It's a fake ghost hunt, but you can bet that it's better than Ghost Adventures and Most Haunted. However, it can drag on, and there are some rather boring parts in the movie, which is why I put it at the bottom of the list. It's clever how they show the ghost for only a split-second. It certainly proves that less is more! Not to mention that the ending is SCARY. It was the last movie so far that kept me up all night. No wonder it scared the heck out of British viewers!

Most people put movies that they thought people should watch in order to get into horror instead, so that's why there aren't a lot of obscure horror movies on the list.

Sorry for not posting in a while. I was too busy listening to music and going on TV Tropes, a surprisingly addicting website. Not to mention that I didn't know what to post. If I can stop being lazy, I'll probably write up a few posts before September. Since I'm probably going to be assigned a lot of homework in high school, I might not be able to post anything during the school year. Oh well. I hope I can enjoy the summer while it lasts!

Since I'm curious, what is the song you're addicted to right now? I recently got into Michael Jackson, and dang, he had some catchy songs! The song that I'm most addicted to is Scream. I just have to dance while listening to that song.

Have you seen, read, or heard something so disgusting, disturbing, and/or scary that you just wanted to bang your head against the wall until you forgot about it? I've seen many disgusting and disturbing things, but one story that I read made me want to vomit. In June of 2007, a group of teens broke into the apartment of a mother and son, beat them both, raped the mother while forcing the son to watch, and then forced the son to rape his own mother at gunpoint. They then beat the son, poured cleaners into his eyes, stole several hundred dollars in cash and jewelry, and escaped. This is horrifying enough, but the part that makes me want to puke is when the teens made the son rape his own mother. Since I have an imaginative mind, I immediately thought of that happening to my mother and I. I'm feeling queasy just thinking about it. Dang, I'd rather die than do that. Come to think of it, my mind doesn't like me. I swear, images pop up in my mind at the most inappropriate times.

My readers, if you had seen, read, or heard something that scarred you for life, and wish to have your brain bleached, post something in the comments section. I need your empathy!

Orphan

In my opinion, Orphan isn't just pretty good for an American movie from this decade, it's one of the best horror movies of all time. Orphan just blew me away. The acting was very good-especially the children, and it was scary with a capital S. I don't understand how it got a lot of bad reviews, but who should you believe more, a horror-blogger, or some critic? Don't just take my word for it. Johnny from Freddy in Space, BC from Horror Movie a Day, and probably a few more well-respected horror-bloggers recommend it. I thought that the twist was good, even though I accidentally found out about it. I can't recommend it enough! Hopefully you'll love it too! I'll most likely talk more about the film in my upcoming Soap Magic's Top 60 Horror Movies, since I'm still in awe!

Crumbling Away: A companion piece to The Corpse (a horror movie idea found in Soap Magic's Horror Movie Ideas: Part 1). Searra has a tough life. When she was younger, she always wanted to impress her mom, but her mom wouldn't appreciate the things she did for her. One day, Searra's mom dies from a stroke, and her world just falls apart. Searra's father takes advantage of this, and starts to break it down even more by verbally abusing her. He also starts to raise Searra as a bitter person. When Searra starts high school, she befriends two mean-spirited girls, and they start to pick on Rosemari for a few months. One night, Searra briefly sees her mom's reflection in a mirror. She tells Searra that she loves her, but Searra doesn't believe it. She slowly starts to become more and more insane after the vision. Now a bit insane, Searra gets into a fight with Rosemari, and manages to convince the principal that Rosemari did all of the beating. After Rosemari's suspension, Searra had enough abuse from her dad, and strikes him with a metal baseball bat. Tears flow as she drags the body to the cellar. Rosemari unexpectedly returns to school to murder everyone. Searra manages to escape and breaks down emotionally. When Rosemari finds her, she is huddled in a corner, crying uncontrollably. Rosemari is indifferent to this and hacks her with a scythe. The film ends with Searra's blood-curdling screams.

The Portal: Carrie starts to see demons hovering over her when she's sleeping (or when she's trying to fall asleep). She tells her brother (who she lives with) about this, but he thinks that she's just seeing things in the dark. She becomes a little suspicious. When her brother is at a party, Carrie snoops around in her brother's room. She finds books about demons. One chapter reveals that some demons can possess someone, and will murder anyone. The victims' souls will immediately go to Hell as a result of being killed by a person possessed by this kind of demon. Carrie also learns that in order for these demons to come out, one has to open a portal by having a black mass that ends with the sacrifice of a virgin. Carrie suddenly fears for her life, because she is a virgin. This probably explains why demons were hovering over her when she's at bed at night. She calls her older sister and tells her this shocking secret. She comforts Carrie, and tells her that she can stay with her until this settles. Carrie packs her most important things (clothes, toiletries, mementos etc.) and goes downstairs to wait for her. She starts to smell sulfur. The stench is coming from the basement. She goes down to see why the basement smells like this. Carrie is shocked to see that her basement is set up for a black mass. The smell is coming from the demons that she feels are present in the basement. She runs upstairs, only to see her sister and brother together; her sister was in on it. Soon, Satan worshippers start to show up, and to her horror, the black mass starts. Carrie meets a gruesome demise as she bleeds to death, opening the portal. These killer-demons possess a few people, and they go out to murder their closest friends and family. Soon, demons gain control of the world, and the film ends with Carrie's brother laughing like a maniac.

The Foresters: A group of explorers go hiking in a forest. They discover the ruins of a town that was abandoned. One explorer (May) finds a tablet that explains how an evil spirit was awakened in a town, and the residents fled in terror. Some stayed and managed to calm it. It warns that if these grounds were to be disturbed, the evil spirit would awaken again and start an apocalypse. One explorer (Frank) finds an artifact sticking out of the ground. He digs it out. It's the mask of a demon. He scares a couple of his hiking buddies. They tell him to scare May. When Frank tries to find he, he mysteriously dies. May runs back to the group to tell everyone about this. They tell her that Frank found a mask. May tells them that they need to leave, and that they don't have enough time to look for Frank. Frank's girlfriend (Sharon) decides to look for him anyways. The group tries to leave, but various things happen along the way, like them almost being trampled by animals, trees falling down, and a dangerous lightning storm. They get to the car, only to realize that Frank had the keys. They look up, and a giant monster is walking towards them. The group runs away, but they get stomped on, except for May. She jumped into a bush in the nick of time. Not knowing what to do, May breaks into the car and takes shelter in it. It is revealed that natural disasters are happening everywhere. Then, the monster creates a massive black hole, and possibly the whole universe is sucked in.

Darkweb Online claims that these are the greatest horror movies of all time. They've combined the ratings of their favorite movies with the results of a massive public survey to "produce the most accurate version of the Horror 100 yet!" Since they claim that these are the greatest horror movies of all time, I just have to see if that's true!

These people apparently prefer older movies over more recent movies. There's over 2o movies on this list that were made in the '30s! There's only a little over 15 movies from the '70s, which is considered one of the best decades for horror. Not to mention that there's only two movies from this decade on this list, and one's a comedy! That's a huge flaw in my book. It's alright if they claim it's only an opinion, but they didn't.

This is every parent's nightmare: Bunny Lake Is Missing

I just saw Bunny Lake Is Missing on TCM, and I have to say, it's the best mystery/horror/thriller film I've ever seen. A young American woman (Ann Lake) moves to England. She shows up at her daughter's nursery school only to find out that her daughter (Bunny Lake) has disappeared. To top it off, nobody has even seen her! Since there's no proof that Bunny even exists, police are starting to think that she's just a figment of Ann's imagination.

It's not a traditional horror film. The horror is more realistic, and not all out in your face. Surely every parent would find this horrifying! The actors were fabulous. Carol Lynley (Ann) played her character well. It was as if she were Ann herself!

Another good thing about this movie is the quality of the image. Aside from the opening credits, Bunny Lake Is Missing isn't grainy at all. Watching it in HD most likely helped. I recommend it!

I'm in love with Bones

I know Bones isn't a horror TV show, but they always have disgusting-looking corpses, and like BJ-C says: my blog, my rules. In my opinion, Bones is the best crime drama/police procedural TV show I've ever seen. The cast is wonderful (and sexy). All of the characters are cool. You'd want to hang out with them. The show is also funny at times. Not to mention that Bones will keep you guessing who's the murderer in each episode.

If you're into shows like CSI, Numb3rs, and Law & Order, then I highly recommend Bones.

Horror Movie Dreams

Sometimes, I dream about watching certain horror movies. It's so weird, yet cool at the same time. Most of the time, the horror movies that I "watch" in my dreams aren't anything like the actual movies in real life.

Night of the Living Dead: Instead of zombie people, it's zombie turkeys that are trying to eat people. Also, Ben became ghetto. This was the first time I dreamt in black-and-white. The strange thing is that in the dream, I thought this was better than the real movie.

Alucarda: Three women were in a white apartment. One woman killed another woman with an axe. The other girl tried to hide in a closet, but Ms. Axe Lady hacked her to bits before she could even close the door. This inspired my horror movie idea Intuition.

Martyrs: Two large French lesbian women tortured and killed me and my second cousin. Then, they stalked a beautiful lady. They captured her, and took her to their home. One of the lesbians raped the girl. This was more disgusting than the actual movie!

I also dreamt about watching a horror movie that doesn't exist in real life. This "movie" was about a girl that could willingly transform into a werewolf. There was an event going on at the auditorium of my former school. She was talking to a guy outside about her ability to transform into a werewolf. Then, it turned dark. The guy knew what was going to happen, so he tried to warn everyone in the auditorium about this. There was a blackout, and it was pitch black. Suspenseful music played as the people are trying to avoid the lycanthrope. Suddenly, a white werewolf grabs a kid in a wheelchair.

Are these horror movie dreams cool or f*cked up? You decide.

Riget/Riget II (aka: The Kingdom)

The Kingdom is one of the weirdest movies (okay, miniseries) I've ever seen. It's a bizarre mix of medical drama, comedy, and horror. The horror bits are fantastic. It's too bad that The Kingdom isn't at least 60% horror, or it would be in my top 50 horror movies. Riget II (The Kingdom: Series 2), however, may have a chance.

Riget II deals with Satanism. Anything Satan-related frightens me, so you can bet that this frightened me a lot. There's a scene were a demon grows horns, then breaks them off! How crazy is that? When I finished watching it, I thought to myself, what did I just watch?

Unfortunately, there were many unanswered questions. There was supposed to be a Riget III, but one of the main actors died, therefore Riget III will never be made. I find this sad, because I really wanted closure.

The way The Kingdom was made is very unique. It's grainy, and it looks like it was shot through a sepia filter. At times, it has a low-budget feel.

In my opinion, Riget II is better than the original. Most people would disagree, but Riget II is more scary, and is all around a better movie/miniseries than Riget. Riget has its moments too, so don't skip it and just watch the sequel instead. Not to mention that you'd be completely lost if you did. Either way, I recommend The Kingdom. It's weird, funny, scary, and oddly touching. I still wish Riget III was made...

A couple of days ago, Brad Miska of Bloody-Disgusting invited me to write articles on Bloody-Disgusting! We're still working it out, but hopefully I'll be able to start writing articles for B-D soon. :D

What emotions go greatly with horror?

A lot of people would say joy goes greatly with horror- from the humor that's in horror-comedies. I like my horror movies to be scary and serious, and in some cases, tragic. If something horrible happens to a character that you like, then you'd feel horrified and sad. Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door is a perfect example. When you see what happens to those poor girls, you'll feel horrified, and sad that something so terrible is happening to someone that doesn't deserve it. Horror movies that are tragic will leave a bigger impact on you, as opposed to a movie like The Evil Dead.

Another emotion that goes great with horror is disgust. If you're watching a gore flick, you should feel disgusted while watching the movie. A disgusting moment that comes to mind is a scene from Cabin Fever, where Paul accidentally falls on top of a corpse that had been floating in a lake. Come to think of it, Cabin Fever had a lot of disgusting scenes involving the flesh-eating virus. I feel nauseous just thinking about it.

Some beautiful horror movies will set off the emotion awe, like Jigoku for example. Apparently, Buddhist hell is breathtakingly beautiful and horrific at the same time.

Last but not least, anxiety is an emotion that goes hand in hand with horror. It's different from terror, because with terror, you're anticipating a scary event, while with anxiety, you're worried that something horrible is going to happen to your favorite character.

Soap Magic's Horror Movie Ideas: Part 3

Here's another edition of my lovely horror movie ideas!

Spine: A school bus full of teens crash with a truck carrying toxic chemicals. The survivors are hospitalized. They complain about pains in their backs, and when doctors try to relieve the pain, they find out that the chemicals from the crash had mutated their spines into growing monsters. The monsters gruesomely escape from their hosts by bursting out of their backs, and they reproduce by injecting victims with poison.

Wound: A model gets a wound on her shoulder from a car crash. It doesn't heal properly, and it leaves a nasty, bumpy scar. She's fired from her job, because she can't be a model with a scar on her shoulder. Desperate to get her job back, the model wants the scar removed. She gets plastic surgery on her shoulder, but the surgeon was drunk, and he made the scar even worse. The model gets an infection, and her skin becomes so fragile that the smallest bruise or cut will turn into a wound.

Sirens: A married couple moves into a house on a small island. The husband sees visions of sirens that try to seduce him. They play songs that only he could hear. His wife doesn't believe him and thinks he's just imagining things. Later that night, the wife has a dream that the sirens put her husband into a trance and made him jump off a cliff and drown. Unfortunately, her husband is already in a trance. She tries to snap him out of it, but it doesn't work, and he jumps off the cliff. Now in a state of depression, she experiences the same thing that her husband had, except that she's seduced by selkies who transform into human men. Knowing their intentions, she tries to get away from them, but they always catch up to her. Being mentally weak from her husband's death, she eventually gives up, and the selkies carry her to sea. She is transformed into a selkie herself.

The Witches' Fever: In 14th century England, a pandemic is spreading across the nation. People believe it's the work of witchcraft. Those who don't show any signs of the disease are considered witches, and are burned at stake. One of the main characters is haunted by the re-animated skeletons of plague victims. I want the mood to be very creepy, and I want black to be the dominant color of the movie.

Black Magic: Rosemari and a couple of her friends move into a big house. Her friends die gruesome, mysterious deaths (for example, one person falls out of a window and is impaled through her eye on a spike from the metal fence that surrounds the house. After the bodies are sent to the morgue, they disappear. Rosemari researches the history of her house, and she finds out that Satanic rituals were performed in the area that her house was built on a couple of centuries ago. Also, 25 years before she moved into her house. A child was murdered in the basement of the house in a Satanic ritual. Unaware that there was a basement in her house, Rosemari tries to find it. She knocks on walls to see if the door leading to the basement had been sealed, and it had. Rosemari uses a sledgehammer to demolish the wall, and she discovers another wall behind it, and there's a boarded up door in this wall. She breaks into the basement and makes a gruesome discovery. All of the missing bodies were in the basement, arranged so that it looked like the bodies were displayed. One of the bodies were turning more and more demonic, until it walks toward Rosemari. She realizes that The Devil is possessing the body, and she tries to escape. The place is set on fire by The Devil, and she's trapped with him.

The Red Light: A woman has recently moved there, and she enjoys living there. One night, the locals turn crazy and starts to break into her house. Frightened, she drives away from the town. As she is driving away from the town, she sees a red light. She drives into it, and is transported into a dimension that is inhabited by ghosts that slowly turn malevolent after meeting the woman.

Soap Magic Talks About Necrophilia

Some people are sexually attracted to things sane people would find disgusting, like feces, urine, and vomit. Today, I'm going to talk about a paraphilia that's horror related: necrophilia. Necrophilia is the sexual attraction to corpses. Now why would corpses be attractive? According to 34 cases of necrophilia, 68% percent of these cadaver-lovers had the desire to possess an unresisting and unrejecting partner, 21% wanted to reunite with a romantic partner, 15% wanted comfort or to overcome feeling of isolation, 12% seeked self-esteem by expressing power over a homicide victim, and 15% just found dead bodies sexy. I can understand if they're attracted to fresh cadavers, but decomposing corpses? Rotting corpses are the most disgusting things. Why would someone find a smelly, maggot-infested, decaying corpse sexy? EWW.

I think that necrophilia would be a great topic for horror movies. The only movies that I'm aware of that are about necrophilia are Nekromantik and its sequel, and those movies are relatively obscure. There are horror movies that have graphic rape scenes, cannibalism, and gruesome deaths, but not necrophilia? There's already sex in horror, so why not make it relevant?

The Corpse is my most popular movie idea, and it deals with necrophilia. A lonely teenage girl finds a decaying corpse in the woods and befriends it. How does that not sound weird? Of course, the girl doesn't have sex with it, but she has a relationship with it nonetheless. I want to be a director someday, and I want to bring corpse-lovin' back to horror!

After watching a couple of good horror movies (City of the Living Dead for example), my Top 50 horror movies has changed. I have also removed some movies from my Top 50 Horror Movies list. I want to watch at least seven more good horror movies before posting it. I'll call it Soap Magic's Top 50 Horror Movies 2.0. I plan on explaining why I included each movie in my Top 50 Horror Movies. I might also add pictures.

My thoughts on the Twilight-bashing...

I really don't know much about Twilight. All I know is that it's really popular with teen and tween girls, and it's really unpopular with virtually everyone in the horror community. I haven't read the books or seen the movie, so that doesn't give me the right to criticize it. Well, let me say my thoughts, O-KAEY!

First of all, anything that's popular with girls between the ages of 10 and 18 is most likely not anything related to cool horror movies. Second of all, if a person or a group of people continues talking about something that doesn't sound interesting in the first place, then it will seem crappy. I don't want to criticize the people who read it, but come. Something that's popular with the people that obsess over Hannah Montana and The Jonas Brothers will sound dumb to the horror community. Also, if Twilight vampires are the only vampires people know about, then that will just be something that you'd go UGH over.

I believe that you shouldn't criticize something you haven't read/seen/listened to. I will admit that B-Sol and BJ-C had convinced me that "Twatlight" is a load of crap. I have a lot of respect for those two people, but I hope they have seen the movie and/or reads the books before ranting about it. Also, they need to stop making persuasive rants. :P

Now I'm back to the people that bash on Twilight even though they haven't "experienced" it. I think they bash on it because it's popular with people who have bad taste (young girls), and therefore, Twilight must be as bad as Hannah Montana in their eyes. Still, people must only bash on something if they had "experienced" it and hated it. Otherwise, just stay quiet.

THE MORAL OF THE POST: Don't bash on something you haven't experienced in one way or another. Also, don't offend the people that like it, unless they like something that really is a bad thing, like being anorexic.

A couple of days ago, I posted that I haven't seen any horror movies that made me think "Wow, what a movie!". Fortunately, I have seen four movies in a row that were good:

The Girl Next Door: You already know that TGND disturbs me deeply. It's very well made and combines horror and drama in a great way. Unlike most torture porn movies, this movie has a message.

City of the Living Dead: I think The Beyond is Lucio Fulci's masterpiece, but CotLD is much scarier. Sure, it has its flaws, but what do you expect from an Italian horror movie from the 80s? Lucio Fulci may have made a bunch of crappy movies, but he has also made three classic horror movies.

The Eye: This is one of the best Asian horror movies I've ever seen. It's atmospheric and very suspenseful. I wonder if there's any other good horror movies from China.

The Fly: I'll have to admit that I wasn't happy with the first hour, but when Seth Brundle starts to transform into a human-fly hybrid, dang. The Fly has one of the scariest half-hours ever. It's too bad the rest of the movie isn't like it.

In non-horror related news, I'm going to get a Nintendo DSi! I'm so excited! I'm still a 13 year old, don't forget.

My Father's Horror Movie Experiences...

On June 15th, 1955, a baby called Edward (aka Dad of Soap Magic) came out of a mysterious Puerto Rican canal in New Joisey. He moved to Puerto Rico when he was 13, and he became even more Puerto Rican! :P I'll let my dad take it from here!

When "The Exorcist" first came out, I went to watch it with my first wife. In not even 1/3 of the way into the movie, we had to leave because she crapped in her pants. So I went back with a high school buddy, and we enjoyed the whole movie. At the time, it was the scariest movie ever.

After I married my second wife and my son Soap Magic was 10, I showed him "The Fog". It was one of the scariest movies we've ever seen. Eventually my son grew up to be the horror movie buff that he is today, and now he has seen more movies than I have seen.

Soap Magic's Top 6 Disturbing Horror Movies

6. Ghostwatch (1992): Mr. Pipes is a very scary ghost, especially when he only appears for a split-second. I couldn't sleep after watching that movie, because I'd imagine Mr. Pipes standing in a dark corner of my room watching me. Ghostwatch will always hold a special place in my heart for being the only horror movie that prevented me from falling asleep.
5. Audition (1999): At first, Asami seems like a shy girl. Then, she reveals that she's a psycho b!tch that'll injure you if you love her. Now that's disturbing.

4. Martyrs (2008): BIG SPOILERS FOR MARTYRS! There is a group of people that torture young women so they can become martyrs. Now Anna has to experience what Lucie went through. These people cut off her hair, beat her, and force her to eat yellow gruel. In her final stage to become a martyr, Anna is skinned alive! How f*cked up is that?

3. The Girl Next Door (2007): Meg and her sister Susan get abused by their aunt and three cousins. It's disturbing enough to see what Meg and Susan go through, but it's even more disturbing that other kids are abusing her too. Meg gets most of the abuse. She gets raped, humiliated, beaten, and burned. This is the most tragic horror movie I've ever seen. Not to mention that it's based on the real torture and murder of Sylvia Likens. Now that story is even worse!

2. Cannibal Holocaust (1980): Cannibal Holocaust is a mockumentary that contains cannibalism (obviously), graphic rape scenes, genuine animal murders, and other violence. This film disgusted me so much that I hated it. Eventually, I realized that it's a classic, because it has the power to disturb the viewer inside out.

1. Threads (1984): Threads shows how life would be like if there was a nuclear war. It's so tragic to watch the people who were unlucky enough to survive live in this new condition. After watching it, I felt empty inside, because it was that powerful. I certainly hope there won't be any nuclear wars in the future.

After seeing The Host back in late May, I haven't really seen any horror movies that were enjoyable and made me think 'Wow, what a shocking movie!'. However, there were two movies that sort of came close:

Cannibal Holocaust: This movie is very disturbing. It has graphic rape scenes. genuine animal killings, and other violence. At first I disliked the movie, but after a few hours I realized that it supposed to gross out and disturb the viewer. It obviously wasn't an enjoyable experience to watch it.

Witchfinder General: I think that the first sequence in this movie is one of the scariest movie scenes I've ever seen. It would've been a more enjoyable movie if there wasn't so much dialogue. It would've possibly been an even scarier movie if it wasn't for all that dialogue! Oh well...

I'm preparing myself to see Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door. I heard that it was very disturbing. Also, it was loosely based on the horrible murder of Sylvia Likens. After reading what poor Sylvia went through, I can't imagine how the victim(s) in The Girl Next Door get(s) tortured.

I bet that when you read Soap Magic, you imagined bars of soap and rabbits coming out of hats, or maybe soap doing magical things. Well, the name Soap Magic has nothing to do with the magic of soap. I thought that Soap Magic looked cool. Just ignore the definition of soap and magic, and look at the letters. Maybe you'll now understand why I call myself Soap Magic...

On June 24th, I will finish 8th Grade! That means I'll have more time to work on this blog. I want to remind my readers to look at my horror movie ideas (found in the Highlights of The Beyond section), then vote on which of my horror movie ideas from part 1 and part 2 look the most interesting. I must have feedback!

So far, The Corpse and The Unknown have the most votes on their respective polls. I'm glad, because those are two of my favorite ideas.

I'm thinking of becoming a director and screenwriter when I grow up. I already have the ideas. I just need to flesh them out, and learn how to become a director.

I'm running out of ideas again. Feel welcome to post anything you want me to type about anytime. I don't like not posting for long periods of time! I also don't like posting something boring.

I enjoy reading your comments. I like knowing what people have to say about certain things.

I think B-Sol should put together another Top 50 Horror Films of All Time, Top 25 Horror Films of the Modern Era, and Top 20 Foreign Horror Films of All Time with the Cyber-Horror Elite. I'd love to participate in all three lists.

The 100th post: Soap Magic's Take on Killer Kids in Horror Movies

A kind reader suggested this idea to me, and I loved it. It would be interesting for a kid like me to talk-or in this case, type-about what he/she thinks about killer kids in horror movies. Of course, I'm only going to type about the killer kids that I'm familiar with (by watching their movies).

The ghost of Melissa was the one killing everyone in Mario Bava's Kill, Baby... Kill!. When she was alive, she got run over, and nobody helped her when she was slowly bleeding to death. This would be a reasonable excuse for the ghost of Melissa to kill people, but she was actually being controlled by her vengeful mother. Either way, Melissa is very creepy.

I bet a lot of people could empathize with Carrie. Come on, those bullies got what they deserved. No matter what people think, Carrie was the victim, not the enemy.

Jill was good until she got possessed by whatever was haunting Louisiana at that time. When she tried to attack Liza, she got killed in what's probably The Beyond's most famous scene. An exorcism would've been better, but when you're surrounded by zombies, you do what you gotta do. Plus, it was a cool scene.

Anyone with the blood of Satan running through their blood vessels should be killed; no exceptions. Damien might've not had directly killed anyone in The Omen, but he's the Antichrist! Sometimes kids can't just "re-learn". They're corrupted for life.

Most people would think "thank God there aren't kids like this in real life!", but there are. We all know about the teenage murderers, but did you know that little kids can have the will to kill? Let me tell you about the tragic story of Kayla Rolland.

Six year old Kayla Rolland was a student at Buell Elementary School in Mount Morris Township, Michigan. On February 29, 2000, she was shot and killed by her first-grade classmate, Dedrick Owens. He wasn't arrested because he was "too young". I disagree, because most six year olds probably haven't thought about killing anyone. I blame whoever took care of Dedrick for having a gun in the house, but Dedrick must've known that shooting someone would've hurt someone, and therefore he should be blamed too. You could say that Dedrick might've not known how much damage a gun could make, but read this. Before he killed Kayla, he said that he disliked her. We all know that toy guns don't do damage, so if Dedrick thought that the gun was a toy gun, then why would he use it on someone he disliked?

This is one of the most f*cked up things I've ever read about. It's bad enough when a cute, innocent child gets murdered, but when a kid's the murderer, then that's just horrifying.

BJ-C of Day of the Woman had said that what makes an evil child different from an evil adult is that an evil child can re-learn, or in other words change. Sometimes I wonder if Dedrick is an exception.

I'm in love with the score of The Beyond...

Fabio Frizzi is just awesome. He scored a couple of other Lucio Fulci movies like Zombi 2, but his score for The Beyond is the best. The Beyond is one of the few movies I actually own, so I'm most likely going to watch it again sometime soon. The Beyond is the best Italian horror movie ever made in my opinion.

The Grim Reaper: After coming to his grandmother's funeral, Lachlan's family starts to die, one by one. Lachlan takes a picture of one of his dying relatives, and when the picture develops, he sees something shocking. He sees the Grim Reaper standing next to his dying relative. Lachlan seeks help from supernatural experts, and they say that the best thing is to stay out of dangerous situations and be healthy. Unfortunately, Lachlan gets injured in a freak accident, and the Grim Reaper could get him anytime soon...
I want The Grim Reaper to be very atmospheric. I also want it to be visually dark, bleak, and gloomy.

Colony of the Dead: A hurricane hits a town in Florida. Survivors take refuge in an abandoned hospital. They soon find out that infected 28 Days Later-like zombies live in the hospital. I want this movie to make people feel claustrophobic.

The Discipline of the Crow: This takes place during the Salem Witch Trials. Lisa is scared to death, because there are witches all around her, and she can't tell who's a witch and who's not. Lisa is shocked when she sees a furry claw growing out of her brother's back. Her brother tells her that a witch cursed him; he will slowly turn into a demonic beast. That night, Lisa gets a visit from a demonic fairy-like creature. It tells Lisa that her father had hanged a witch, and the witch's daughter had cursed Lisa's family. The next morning, Lisa finds little bat wings growing out of her back. Soon, she will turn into a demonic bat.

The Devil's Temptation: Lachlan moves into a big house that is haunted by The Devil. He visits Lachlan in various forms; a dog, a human with a goatee, a goat, and demonic humanoid creature. He tries to persuade Lachlan to sell his soul to him, and in return Lachlan will have a fantastic life. The Devil tricks Lachlan to sell his soul, and he places a curse on him. Lachlan is slowly transforming into a demon, physically and mentally. He tries to get a priest to exorcise him while he still has his human part of him. But unfortunately, The Devil is very powerful...

The Fake Sun: After a near-death experience, Elly remembers memories that were hidden in her mind. She remembers befriending an imaginary friend. She realizes that her friend was actually a ghost. She also remembers being attached to a picture that she has called "The Fake Sun", because it was a big, bright orb that resembled the sun.
After finding the picture, Elly goes insane and tries to destroy everything that connects her to her childhood.

The Unknown: Rosemari picks up messages from a spirit. These messages lead her to an isolated factory, where she discovers a mass of tissue that was an experiment. A person that knows the scientists who created it tells Rosemari to kill it, because the scientists are going to create a monster out of it. She kills it, but the scientists come out of nowhere and tells her that she's been tricked. The mass of tissue had inhabited an evil soul, and now that it has been killed, it will control the world. What follows will be surreal and disturbing.

Remembering The Cats who Died in Horror Movies...

I LOVE cats. They're so cute and they actually smell good most of the time, unlike a certain other animal. Of course, not only humans die in horror movies. This post is dedicated to the fictional kitties who got brutally murdered.

Inside: It's kind of ironic that one of my favorite horror movies has a cat killing in it. So anyways, the psycho woman who want to cut Sarah's stomach open encounters Sarah's pet cat. At first she's petting it, and you're thinking she's going to spare it, but no. She crushes the poor cat's head and throws the body away like it was garbage. OK, this b!tch has crossed the line. Now I know she's really nuts.

May: May has adopted her friend/lover's pet cat, Loopy. After realizing that her friends aren't the perfect people she thought they were, she tries to call Loopy. Of course, Loopy hisses at her, then leaves. May gets so angry that she throws an ashtray at her. An ashtray. OK, I understand that May's really upset, but she should've thrown a pillow instead. What if Loopy was having a bad day too? B!tch.

I bet there are more cat killings in horror movies, but these are the ones that I saw. Every time I see a cat get killed, I wonder why dogs don't get killed too. But after seeing Ginger Snaps, I know that everything evens out.

Soap Magic's Absolute Favorite Horror Movies

Since I posted my least favorite popular horror movies a couple of days ago, I would like to post something that's a little less negative. These movies are my absolute favorite horror movies, ever. They manage to scare me, and make the experience enjoyable as well.

Inside: I know this movie is disliked by a couple of people, but I don't care about them. This movie is virtually flawless, except for that zombie scene near the end. This goes above your average slasher gore film. Both female leads are fantastic. It combines horror, suspense, and gore in such a great way. I have no problem telling people that Inside is in my Top Ten Horror Movies of All Time. That's right. Of All Time.

[REC]: Another fabulous horror film from recent years. This movie terrified me so much, even though I was watching it in 10-min. sections on Youtube. In fact, it terrified me so much that it's #1 on my Top 50 Horror Movies. People that say modern horror sucks nowadays obviously never saw this. Come on, people are trapped in a building with 28 Days Later-like zombies. Not to mention that it's all in first=person view. People got scared by The Blair Witch Project, but [REC] is a thousand times better than The Blair Witch Project.

The Descent: In my opinion, this, [REC], and Inside are the golden trio of modern horror. This movie got me trembling, and very few movies still do that to me.

The Innocents: I don't just love modern horror. The atmosphere in The Innocents is so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Watching it at night with definitely help.

Faust: Faust is the best silent horror movie in my opinion. This movie is also very atmospheric. This movie deserves to be on more Top Horror Movies lists. To top it all off, I got mad street cred because I saw Faust. Woo!

The Beyond: I named my blog after this movie, so I obviously like it. It's one of the best Italian horror films ever. It's even better than anything made by Mario Bava.

Am I not getting it?: Soap Magic's Least Favorite Popular Horror Movies

I was toying around with posting something like this. After seeing the VOH Roundtable's least favorite horror movies, I decided to add on to it. This is 100% my opinion, so don't b!tch about it. Prepare for a post that might offend you.

Dracula: Just because it was historically significant and it had Bela Lugosi doesn't mean that it's a good movie. The first 15 minutes were atmospheric, but when the Count went to London, it was like the movie went to Crapville. Who even thinks that Dracula's silly stare is scary anymore? It's dumb. I'm sorry, but Nosferatu, Horror of Dracula, even the inferior Nosferatu the Vampyre are 100x better than this pseudo-classic.

Jaws: Believe me, I loved the scenes with the shark, but there wasn't enough of it. Instead of seeing a shark eating people, I saw sailors singing horribly and fishing for the shark for like a hour. I don't care about them! I want more violence, dam*it! Even from seeing a minute of Jaws when I was little, I knew that it was going to be boring.

The Return of the Living Dead: If the 80s was like this (minus the zombies, of course), then I'm glad that I was born a decade later. This was another movie where the characters ruined the whole movie. There's nothing worse than having to watch teenagers that curse in every sentence that think they're cool. Even the split-dogs and the talking zombie head-torso couldn't save this film. The only character I liked was Tina. Poor, sweet Tina. You had to be in a horrible movie.

Salem's Lot (1979): The only cool thing about this movie is Barlow and that floating kid, and they probably only had around 25 minutes of screen time. This movie is over three hours. THREE FREAKING HOURS! Can you imagine how bored I was?

The Devil's Backbone: This movie is so retarded*. The main character gets bullied for the first half of the film, then he befriends his tormentors in the second half of the film. How dumb is that? That b!tch should've used Santi to supernaturally kick their arses, not make friends with them! To think this movie came from the guy that made Pan's Labyrinth, jeez.

Poltergeist: OK, the only good scenes are when the steak was crawling, which lead to that man ripping chunks of flesh off his face, and that sequence where skeletons were popping out of the ground. Everything else seemed like a supernatural fantasy film for kids (with profanity). Maybe it scared the crap out of children in the 80s, but it's not even entertaining now. I honestly think Poltergeist III was more entertaining.

The origins of The Corpse

I haven't seen May when I saw this picture, so I thought that she had put a mask on the corpse that she's on top of. A couple days later, I went to school, and everything was wet and mushy. This picture popped up in my head, and I connected it with the wet, mushy area next to my school, and I got the idea of a girl befriending a decomposing corpse that she found it the woods one day.

Eventually, the image of a girl arriving to school with a scythe appeared in the mind, and I made the backbone of The Corpse.

My First Ghost Experience

I've been in Gettysburg on a class trip over the past few days. On the first day there, I went on a ghost hunt. It interested me, because as one chaperone said, "It's right up my alley". The tour guide said that one could see, hear, or smell a ghost. Shortly after that, we went to what I believe near the National Cemetery. As the tour guide was talking, I heard a sound. It sounded like someone walking on the grass or scraping their foot on the dirt. I looked behind me, and there was nothing there. I heard this sound a couple more times.

I couldn't deny it, I heard a ghost. I wasn't the only person to experience paranormal activity. One student smelled a ghost, and another one claimed to have saw the shadows of the ghosts of skinny children.

I will remember this experience for the rest of my life. I've always had believed in ghosts, but this confirmed that ghosts are real.

The Beyond presents: Soap Magic's Horror Movie Ideas: Part 1

Another treat for you guys before I go to Gettysburg. Anyways, I think I'm very creative. So, of course I think about ideas for a movie. I think my ideas have potential.

The Corpse: A lonely girl (Rosemari) befriends a decomposing corpse in the woods. She tells the corpse about her life, especially about being bullied. Rosemari gets suspended after getting into a fight with a bully (the bully doesn't get any consequences). The corpse's spirit either possesses her or makes her go insane. She comes back unexpectedly to school to kill everyone with a scythe and a nail gun. I know this sounds similar to Carrie and May, but I hope the corpse will make The Corpse different from both movies. The first half will focus on Rosemari's relationship with the corpse; the second half will focus on her murder spree.

Intuition: A woman in her mid-twenties (Rosemari; I like that name a lot) gets bitten by a demonic bat-like vampire. After she recovers from the attack in the hospital, Rosemari discovers that her male lover is cheating on her with another woman. She kills both of them and literally sucks them dry.
She realizes that she turns into a vampire every time she gets angry, and will kill anyone that made her feel that way. Rosemari now tries to stay out of situations that'll make her feel upset, but her intuition tells her that not feeling upset will be impossible.
The demon-vampire that bit Rosemari visits her. It mentally tortures her, making the involuntary urge to turn into a vampire stronger. After murdering and sucking all of the blood from a couple more victims, Rosemari eventually asks a friend to kill her with a wooden stake, but the urge to turn into an angry vampire has taken over her completely.

Through The Looking Glass Darkly: A 10-year girl, Linda, falls into an alternate dimension through a mirror in an abandoned house. The dimension is the perfect place for a 10-year old girl; it's home to thousands of cute creatures and animated toys, and the landscape is colorful and cheerful. Linda soon learns a shocking secret; the paradise is actually a place for demons to lure and corrupt innocent souls.

The Crown on the Crimson Altar: An antique seller discovers a golden crown worth over $250,000. He soon discovers that the crown was used to worship a green-skinned alien-demon who had a horn on her forehead-like a unicorn. Her name was Eorka.
He tries to tell the new owner of the crown that, but the owner doesn't believe him. The owner finds a crimson altar near his home, and summons Eorka. Shortly, a cult worshipping the alien-demon starts to form, and the antique seller tries to stop it before Eorka and her followers wreak havoc on the world. The plot of The Curse of the Crimson Altar inspired this movie idea. I imagine The Crown on the Crimson Altar to be very atmospheric and suspenseful.

The Lovely Skeletons: This is about the disturbing relationship between two-you guessed it-skeletons. The title is based on The Lovely Bones, although there is no other connection between the two works of fiction.

Wrath of the Lich: A couple goes to an isolated castle in Europe. They discover a giant cemetery which inhabits a powerful lich that wants to makes them part of his army of the undead. I want this movie to be very atmospheric.

It has taken me six months to complete it, but it was worth it. This Top 50 Horror Movies list is the best list to come from a teenager. I don't have Hostel or the latest Saw movie on my list, but instead, I have Mario Bava movies, Hammer movies, and a bunch of other classics.

The movies on this list are scary, atmospheric, suspenseful, and/or disturbing in my opinion. No horror-comedies are on the list (except for two). I believe that if a movie makes me laugh instead scaring me, then it's not a horror movie.

The only thing that I regret is not watching a lot of movies from the 30s and 40s. That'll be fixed the next time I make this list.

I hope that you'll find this list acceptable, especially for a 13-year old. Also, the (So Far...) was added for a reason. I haven't seen classics such as Jaws, Alien, etc.

In addition, please comment in a nice and intelligent manner. Don't say my list sucks, because my list is an opinion, not a fact.

The Host spoilers

The Host is a fantastic mix of comedy, drama, and horror. Like Threads, the film made me angry at some countries' governments. In this case, it's the South Korean and the American government. Everything horrible in the movie was caused by them. In fact, an American made someone dump like a hundred bottles of toxic chemicals into a river because the bottles were too dusty. At the end, a US Senate said that the Korean "disease crisis" was caused by "misinformation".

OK, I understand that it's possible that the monster could carry a virus, but come on. Don't just assume that the monster is a disease-carrier, and that the victims are "infected". If no virus showed up in the alleged victims, then there isn't a freaking virus! I doubt that the American and South Korean are that dumb in real life, but I wouldn't be surprised if something like this did happen in real life.

I think The Host is very similar to 28 Days Later. Don't get the impression that The Host ripped off of 28 Days Later. In fact, like The Host better.

Revisiting Ghostwatch

Today, I revisited Ghostwatch. Ghostwatch was a mockumentary shown on BBC One on Halloween 1992. It's infamous in the U.K. because everyone who watched it thought it was real. One person committed suicide after watching it, and it disturbed may other viewers.

This interested me, so I decided to seek out Ghostwatch. I found it on Youtube, and I watched it. Ghostwatch holds a special place in my heart, because it was the most recent movie to prevent me from falling asleep. It was because of the spectre, Mr. Pipes.

Mr. Pipes appears eight times in the movie. His appearances are short, so you'd have to keep your eyes peeled to find him. It was because of his split-second cameos that I couldn't sleep. Despite the fact that I knew Mr. Pipes was just a fictional character, I was afraid he would be watching me in the dark corners of my room.

I moved on to other movies, but recently I discovered that there will be a documentary about the impact of Ghostwatch. It will be called Ghostwatch: Behind the Curtains. There's a Youtube page and a blog about it. This newfound discovery inspired me to re-watch my favorite scenes from Ghostwatch, and it still chills me to the very bone.

Unfortunately, there are some scenes that are slow and boring-like a regular ghost hunt show- but it delivers something that these supposely real ghost hunt shows can't. That is fear.

It saddens me that some cyber-people are just dumb. It annoys me enough that people type like this:

Come on, haven't your teachers taught you how to write and type correctly? Sure, we all make mistakes, but this is pure laziness. Not to mention that these people criticize other people. I fear that when I post my Top 50 Horror Movies, they'll comment in a rude and dumb manner. For example:

WTF u didnt put hostel on ur list? u sukc. ur not a true horor fan if u didnt put hostel and other klasicds such as ther texas chainswa massacer remaek and the saw seyies. u oviusly dont knwo ur horor hidstoruy. ur probly stil in diapers when these klasics came out. my list wil; totally b bettr than ur pathetic list.

Sisters and Black Christmas

Sisters is terrible. It was interesting until that big plot twist, then the movie landed in a pile of feces.

Black Christmas was better. The horror started to kick in at 40 minutes into the movie. It's an interesting precursor to slasher movies, but not the best.

Ginger Snaps and 28 Days Later

Ginger Snaps is an excellent teen horror film. I think it's one of the best North American horror movies from this century. Although the constant use of the f word kind of got annoying.

28 Days Later kind of reminded me of Threads, although Threads was much more depressing than 28 Days Later. It was interesting, but overall, it wasn't enjoyable. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just not enjoyable. It captured the post-apocalyptic life perfectly. I'm glad that the ending was hopeful. With movies like that, you want a happy ending.

Shocking Internet Cartoons: Happy Tree Friends

Now, by looking at the title, one would assume that it's just a generic cartoon shown on Nick Jr., but it's actually a gruesome cartoon about little, cute animals dying or getting injured in gory, brutal ways.

I think it's ironic how Happy Tree Friends combines an element present in children's shows (the cute characters) with an element found in horror movies (the gory, brutal deaths). I bet it's a parody of TV series shown on channels aimed at little kids.

Many viewers find their deaths hysterical (including my father), but I find it sad, cruel, ridiculous, and kind of funny. I'm not saying that I dislike it. In fact. I admire the creators of HTF for creating a show so... different.

Happy Tree Friends is highly disturbing for me, yet it's also very interesting. You would be amazed at what these poor critters go through in each episode. The characters have died in very imaginative ways, such as by eating cement, bleeding to death by having a lightbulb shatter in one's mouth, and by having a rhino's horn go through one's head. It also has subliminal messages. In every cartoon from the Internet series (it also has a TV series), a picture of a character dying in a terrible way will flash before a horrible event happens.

If you're a gore-hound, then you'll just lap this show up. If you're a parent with little kids, then you should stay away from this cartoon like it's a computer virus.

Dagon, Heavenly Creatures, Nosferatu the Vampyre, and May

Dagon is a wonderful film. I just love the aquatic theme in this movie. Not to mention Barbara is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I have to thank the Cyber-Horror Elite people who voted this movie as one of the best/scariest horror movies of all time. Sure, it's just a "movie that almost squeaked through, but didn't", but I think its scarier than a lot of movies that are actually on the list.

Heavenly Creatures is a beautiful drama film, yet some people voted it as one of the best foreign horror movies of all time. Like Dagon, it didn't get enough votes to be on the list, but I'm shocked that people even considered this a horror movie. There are some potentially scary sequences in the movie (and one shocking scene at the end), but come on. It's drama.

Nosferatu the Vampyre isn't as good as the original. I'm not saying it was horrible, it just didn't work for me. Although I did like the ending, and the sympathetic Count.

May is a weird movie. The titular character is likable, yet very strange at the same time. Like Audition, it's not really horror until the last part of the film. The last part will blow you away. It's certainly one of the finest American horror films from this century.

Martyrs and Deep Red

Oh boy, Martyrs is a highly disturbing film. It's even worse than Inside and Threads. I don't want to spoil anything, but I'll say this. Be prepared to watch this. You will not believe what you see in this movie. At least Sarah from Inside had a fighting chance. A certain character in Martyrs, however, does not.

After the first murder scene, Deep Red drifted away from horror. However, in an hour into the movie, it got interesting. It's certainly very different from Suspiria. It's unfortunate that the movie drifted away from horror for a large portion of the film. If it didn't, then it would be very high on my list.

Jigoku is the most beautiful horror movie I've ever seen. Like Night of the Living Dead and Audition, the reason why this is scary is because of the latter half of the movie, where the main character, Shiro, goes to Hell. I never thought that Hell could be beautiful and horrifying at the same time. I highly recommend this movie. I wonder if Onibaba and Kwaidan is this good.

The Blood Spattered Bride and Salem's Lot

The Blood Spattered Bride wasn't what I expected it to be. It could've been made much better, but it still had some scary parts. The strangest scene is when Susan's husband finds Carmilla buried in sand, with only her snorkel and hand protruding out of it.

Salem's Lot was boring. There was only a few scenes that were scary. I estimate that out of this 3-hour miniseries, only half-an-hour consisted of scary scenes. Sigh.

The Return of the Living Dead and Scanners

The Return of the Living Dead had some clever, scary scenes, but the movie had so many jerks that used profanity in every single sentence, and overall made me dislike them that I didn't enjoy it. I didn't find it funny either. Maybe I didn't notice the humor because the movie was so un-entertaining, for a lack of a better word.

Scanners is a unique movie. It's more of a sci-fi thriller than horror though. The ending was the scariest part in my opinion. Scanners is also my first David Cronenberg movie.

Nosferatu and Bram Stoker's Dracula

Nosferatu is very atmospheric. It's also the best Dracula movie I've ever seen. It's even better than Horror of Dracula! I must warn you, though. There are a bunch of crappy versions out there! Just so you know, here are some tips to know if the version you're going to see is crappy or not:

The characters in Nosferatu have different names than their Dracula counterparts. If Count Orlock is referred to as "Count Dracula", then stop watching it!
Nosferatu should be around 80 minutes.

If you have a Netflix account, then you could watch the original Nosferatu for free on the Internet. That's how I was able to watch it.

Bram Stoker's Dracula was very freaky in the first 40 minutes. Unfortunately, when Dracula became young and attractive, most of the horror was replaced with romance. Sure, there are very scary scenes, but there's also a lot of romance. I'm not going to include this movie in my Top 50 Horror Movies, but I might include it in my Top Horror Movies from the Modern Era.

News on Soap Magic's Top 50 Horror Movies (So Far...)

So far, I have enough movies to make a Top 40, but nobody makes a Top 40 Horror Movies list. Like I said, I removed a lot of movies from this list. While most of the removed movies will be honorably mentioned, I decided that some movies *cough*IT*cough*The Blair Witch Project*cough* don't really meet my requirements at all, and therefore won't be anywhere near my list. IT was only good when Pennywise The Clown was around (and he wasn't around a lot), and the only part in Blair Witch that was scary was the ending.

So far, I think I got a decent list. I have lots of foreign goodies on my list (one is even my top horror movie), some creepy silent movies, some freaky modern movies, some movies from the classic era (1969 and earlier), some obscure movies (I doubt non-British horror movie buffs have heard of Threads) and of course, movies from the 70s and 80s!

Just to remind you, I added the (So Far...) part for a reason. I still haven't seen fan-favorites such as the original Dawn of the Dead, Nosferatu, Alien, Jaws etc. I don't want people to say "You forgot ____! You suck!". Unless it's Poltergeist or Ringu, I haven't seen your precious film, and therefore, I haven't included it! I also need to re-watch Aliens and The Shining.

A problem that I realized is, what if I saw a Top 50 worthy movie while posting the list (by the way, I'm going to post the list in sections) ? Sure, I could edit the list, but still. I guess I have to see movies that I think I won't like while posting it.

If I see 10-12 more Top 50 Worthy Movies, I'll probably start posting the list in June. I'm so excited! :D

Creature From the Black Lagoon and Braindead (Dead Alive)

Creature is a cool film. I thought it was different from anything that I've seen before. I like The Gill-Man a lot! If there was a link between fish and humans, then The Gill-Man would most certainly be that link. I think this movie will be in the latter half of my Top 50 Horror Movies.

Wow, Dead Alive blew me away. It had comedy, romance, and most importantly, gore! While I usually don't include horror-comedies in my Top 50, I just had to include this one! It's just so ridiculous and disgusting. It combined these elements together perfectly, and it's still horrifying. This and An American Werewolf... proved to me that horror-comedies could be funny, yet still be scary enough to be in my Top 50.

EDIT: Now that I watched it a 2nd time with my dad, I realized that Dead Alive is too funny to be in my Top 50. It's a brilliant horror-comedy, but I'd be a hypocrite if I included this movie, but not Bride of Frankenstein, Shaun of the Dead, etc.

I haven't seen this movie for a long time. Since my dad has the DVD, I thought why not watch it again? I saw it last night, and it was freaky! Few movies that I've seen justify the saying "less is more", and this movie's one of them. Hooded figures are scary enough, but when they are obscured by the fog... that's just creepy. Not to mention that the city that I live in is next to Long Island Sound. Well, I'm not that close to the shore, but still.

I feel that this movie is underrated, especially when compared to John Carpenter's other work. I personally think it's better that The Thing. As of now, The Fog is going to be in my Top 10. The Cyber-Horror Elite knew what they were when they nominated The Fog!

With the exception of the Netflix movie that I'm going to see (which is most likely Creature of the Black Lagoon), I just can't watch anymore movies! I've had it with watching movies on the computer! For some reason, I like watching DVDs much more. I just can't wait to embrace 70s and 80s horror again!

Let's see, so far, I watched eight movies that were made before 1970. They are:

I realized how hard making one of these lists are. I removed a couple of movies, drastically reducing the amount of movies that are going to be on my list. Also, now that spring break is over, school is just cutting into my free hours. Video games don't help either. Netflix is also to blame. I love it, but it takes a long time for them to send movies. Not to mention that I'm on the one-movie-at-a-time plan.

I can't wait for May. I just want to start watching modern movies again. I have the biggest urge to watch Alucarda, The Blood-Spattered Bride, Deep Red, and Tombs of the Blind Dead. I hope that these movies are good enough to be on my Top 50 Horror Movies!

Horror of Dracula

Horror of Dracula is a way better film than the original. It has a charm to it, not to mention that the movie was actually entertaining! Christopher Lee plays his character well! Dracula's scary, but he's somewhat sexy. Somewhat. So far, this is the scariest vampire movie I've ever seen.

Well... Horror of Dracula is the 4th Hammer movie I saw, and the 3rd that I liked! I'm kinda sad to let Hammer go for a while, but I must see other movies.

My Opinion of Horror-Comedies

I'm not sure if I have the authority to talk about horror-comedies , because I've only seen four (An American Werewolf ..., Bride of Frankenstein, Evil Dead II, Shaun of the Dead). I believe that there's a difference between a horror movie with a touch of comedy and a horror-comedy. The former is a movie that's scary, but has a few funny scenes (like The Howling). The latter is a movie that combines horror elements and comedic elements together. In my opinion, a horror movie is supposed to scare you. If the movie is making you laugh instead, then it's not a horror movie.

I disagree with the inclusion of Shaun of the Dead on various top horror movie lists, because I feel it has more of a comedic tone than a horrific tone. I'm not saying it's not good or it doesn't have any scary scenes, it's just that I think it's more silly than scary! Unlike Shaun, I think American Werewolf combines horror and comedy perfectly. The movie has hilarious scenes, yet it doesn't restrain on the horror.

Honestly, there won't be a lot of horror-comedies on my list. No matter how much I like Bride of Frankenstein or Shaun of the Dead, they're just not scary enough!

The Curse of Frankenstein

It feels good to watch Hammer movies again. The Curse of Frankenstein is very different from the 1931 version of Frankenstein in a lot of ways. One of the biggest differences is that the movie focuses on The Baron creating, then trying to fix the corrupted monster. Another difference is that
the monster is totally evil and unsympathetic, unlike the monster played by Boris Karloff. If you're a fan of Universal's Frankenstein series, then I recommend this movie. This movie has a slow pace, but it's a fun movie! I'm looking forward to seeing Horror of Dracula!

The Innocents

The Innocents is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's even more atmospheric than Black Sunday. I don't think those who like the gorefests we have today will appreciate the beauty of this film. It's shot beautifully, it's one of those movies that the black-and-white imagery adds to the atmosphere. I highly recommend this movie!

What Scares Me at This Age

Of course, I can handle horror movies, but there's some things that I can't handle, like:

The Devil

I'm not talking about the demon that possessed Linda Blair, I'm talking about the real thing. This fear started when I saw something about The Devil haunting a hotel. Whenever the narrator mentioned Satan, the scene will immediately cut to a close-up of him! My young self couldn't handle it, so every time that happened, I would bury my face into a cushion. I was watching this with my dad, yet even though he saw me frightened, he wouldn't change the channel nor ask me to leave. I 'm still scared to this very day. Approximately 95% of any picture of Satan will make me feel very frightened. Fortunately, my Catechism teacher told me that The Devil doesn't usually appear to people looking like a red goat. He works in subtler ways. Yet, he also told me that demons (although invisible) are everywhere, which took away any relief that I had. Not to mention that sometimes demonic entities appear to people looking scary. Ugh.

Nuclear War

I never really thought about nuclear war until I saw Threads. Nuclear war is just horrible. I don't know why people would think of doing this! I hope that if a nuclear bomb drops on America, I'll die. Seriously. Living in a world post-nuclear war is a fate worse than death.

Serial Killers Who Kill In Shocking Ways

I'm looking at you, psycho b!tch from Inside! Anyone who'll beat you to a pulp (literally) without showing any sign of humanity is scary. Seriously, if you're going to kill somebody, at least make it quick. Don't dismember your victim then hit his/her face with cleats! I estimate that 80-90% of child victims are killed this way. I read that one guy deliberately ran over a two-year-old! That's just f**ked up!

How I got into horror

I don't exactly remember, but I bet it was my dad who got me into horror. I remember watching The Fog (both versions), Stigmata, and 1408 with him. He also let me watch Halloween, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen (the pointless remake; my cousin recommended it to me while watching the original), The Amityville Horror, and other movies.

Then, my interest in horror sort of fade away, until Fall 2008 when I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street. Shortly, I decided to make a top 100 Scariest Movie Moments list based on Bravo's list and Filmsite's list. Eventually, I realized that I shouldn't make the list based on their opinions, it should be based on mine! After a while, I decided to make a Top 100 Horror Movies List. In my research, I discovered The Vault of Horror, Bloody-Disgusting, and other great websites. These websites made me the horror movie fan that I am today.

I renamed my blog

I've decided to rename my blog "The Beyond", after one of my favorite horror movies. I've also decided to rename my blog because "Soap Magic's Blog" was so boring. I wanted to have a title that was relevant to the blog.

When I first made this blog, I didn't know what to name it, so I just called it "Soap Magic's Blog". After a while, I finally realized what this blog was mainly going to be about: my quest to become a horror movie buff. I'm happy about the name change. I hope the name change will attract more readers. Come on, this blog's meant to be read!

The Brain That Wouldn't Die

I actually liked this film a lot! I thought I was going to find it boring, but it was very entertaining! Although Brain isn't Top 50 material, it'll certainly get an honorable mention for entertaining me.

EDIT: I just found out I saw an edited version of Brain. Whether the missing footage would've changed my opinion of the film is unknown.

Dracula

I saw Dracula last night, and...well...it wasn't good. In fact, it was boring. It made this 75 min. movie seem like two hours! I understand it was very influential and scared audiences back in '31, but nowadays it's just not scary anymore. Don't even get me started on that look the Count gives everyone! I hope Horror of Dracula is better than this! >:(
